The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a European breed that were most likely a result of breeding small spaniels with Oriental toy breeds. They served as lap and foot warmers. Some owners used this dog to attract fleas from their owners. Because they are appealing to all members of the family, their popularity grew. Although slow to catch on in the US but it’s popularity is on the rise.
Temperament
The Cavalier makes the ideal house pet. It is a quiet dog that possesses a sweet and gentle nature. It shows a friendliness to strangers, other household pets, as well as other dogs. It loves to explore and chase.
Upkeep and Health
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel needs a daily dose of exercise either in the form of a moderate walk or romping in a safely enclosed area. It should not live outdoors. It’s long hair should be brushed about every other day.
Major health concerns include CHD, syringomelia, and mitral valve insufficiency.
