Once they were recognized by the English Kennel Club in 1886, breeders used selective breeding to improve the dog’s lines. It tends to resemble a miniature Airedale Terrier. It eventually became a competitive show dog but never really found great success in the show ring.
Temperament
The Welsh Terrier tends to be more mild-mannered than many other variation of terriers. It is calm enough to make a great family dog and house pet but yet still is playful and entertaining. It has an inquisitive nature and is independent and sensitive. It should get plenty of daily exercise. It has a tendency to dig and bark so the more exercise it receives, the less likely it is to dig.
