But is was the breed’s obvious grace and beauty that eventually caused the Yorkies to become popular with the wealthy and was gracing dog shows. It was a once a larger breed but by 1900 breeders made an effort to breed a smaller version with longer hair. It’s beautiful coat has placed it as a favorite with dog show fanciers.

Temperament

The Yorkshire Terrier is inquisitive and bold and has no sense of it’s small size. They are always ready for an adventure and ready to get into trouble. It usually shows aggression towards dogs that are new to them as well as other small animals. Although it tends to be a barker, they can also be trained not to bark.

Upkeep and Health

The Yorkies should be played with daily but can probably acquire it’s daily exercise around the home. They love to explore but must be watched or in a confined area to keep them safe and out of trouble. It is unable to live outdoors. Their coat should be brushed every other day.

There are no major health concerns and the minor health concern is patellar luxation.
