The Golden Retriever was recognized as an official breed in 1912 but the AKC did not register them until 1927. It was first valued for it’s hunting abilities. It was some time later that they were valued as a favorite breed for the role of a family dog. It is still one of the most popular breeds in America.
Temperament
The Irish Setter has a huge amount of energy and to make it an acceptable family dog, you must give it a rigorous daily exercise routine. They have a good, enthusiastic nature. Irish Setters are typically full of gusto and energy. This breed can easily become frustrated unless it is given daily exercise so they will display behavioral problems if not able to vent their energy. It loves to be part of a family and included with family activities but it may be too rambunctious for small children. It isn’t recommended for apartment living.
Upkeep and Health
The Irish Setter can live outside in the warmer weather but has to be brought in during the cold weather. They are a sociable breed and is happiest when it can live with the family. The long coat needs brushing 2 – 3 times a week. Some grooming maintenance is required to really enjoy the beauty of the Irish Setter coat.
