The English Toy Spaniel reached it's height of popularity during the 17th century during the reign of King Charles II who doted on his dogs and eventually the breed was called the King Charles Spaniels. Although used as hunting dogs, most people were more interested in their fun loving lap dog qualities.
Temperament
This breed enjoys a playful romp yet gentle. It is a devoted family dog and can be reserved with strangers. It makes a great lap dog with it's calm and quiet personality.
Upkeep and Health
Life span is 10-12 years
This breed is not an overly active dog and it's exercise requirements are minimal. It does not like the heat and it's long coat requires brushing or combing twice a week. It is totally unsuited to live outside and away from it's family.
Major health concern is patellar luxation.
