The Lhasa Apso has a history entwined with Buddhist beliefs. They believed that the souls of lamas entered the sacred dog's bodies when they died. The first Lhasa Apsos were seen in the United States around 1930. They were admitted into the AKC Terrier Group in 1935 but in 1959 it was reassigned to the Non-Sporting Group. It is now a very popular pet and show dog.
Temperament
The Lhasa Apsos can be independent and stubborn with a mind of it's own. It is somewhat reserved with strange people. It likes to play and daily exercise and games make this breed happy. It also is happy to cuddle with his owner and loves to be part of the family.
Upkeep and Health
Life span is 12-14 years
The Lhasa Apsos is a good choice for a small household or an apartment dog. It is not cut out for outdoor living. It's exercise requirements can be met with romping and playing in the home or outside in the yard. Their long hair should be combed out every other day.
Major health concerns include patellar luxation.
