The Dachshund was once used for hunting. After following their prey, they would enter their burrow, pull them out and then kill their quarry. They were strong hunters and were capable of hunting fox, badger, and other small animals. It has found a recent popularity in the United States and is one of the most popular of the hound family as family pets.
Temperament
The Dachshund has an independent and bold nature but prefers to be with it's family over any type of adventure. Although they are good with children in their own family, dachshunds are known to snap at other children and many are reserved with strangers.
Upkeep and Health
Life span is 12-14 years
The smooth coat on the Miniature Dachshund requires minimal grooming and brushing. Although an active dog by nature, their exercise needs can be met with moderate walks or yard games and activities.
Major health concern is intervertebral disk disease and minor health concern includes: KCS.
