The Tibetan Spaniel's origins are based in the Tibetan's Buddhist beliefs. These small dogs were bred by monks in monasteries which usually breed only the smallest dogs. The were used by the monks as an alarm to warm of strangers coming. They would perch up on the monastery walls and bark when strangers or wolves approached. The breed did not make it to the US until the 1960's.
Temperament
The Tibetan Spaniel is bold and has a stubborn streak but also has a happy attitude, family oriented, and sensitive nature. It is friendly with other dogs and animals but is weary of strangers.
Upkeep and Health
Life span is 12-15 years
The Tibetan Spaniel requires minimal daily exercise. It is well suited for apartment residence and should ever live outside. It's coat needs a good brushing about twice a week.
No major health concerns and minor health concerns include patellar luxation and cataract.
