The Toy Fox Terrier were very popular with farmers that were useful and handy in keeping the rodent population in check. They were also popular with pet owners who found the Toy Fox Terrier easier to live with as the temperament was bred to a calmer level in this toy breed.
Temperament
The Toy Fox Terrier is feisty and fun loving toy breed and still show the tendency to hunt, spending hours investigating every inch of your property. They love to play and mix well with older children. They do not tolerate rough handling. This is a one family dog and does not warm to strangers easily. It is eager to please and easy to teach.
Upkeep and Health
Life span is 13-14 years
The Toy Fox Terrier should be exercised regularly and supplied with toys to occupy his energetic and feisty disposition. Only a small area is necessary for it's exercise area. Without sufficient attention and release of energy, it may turn to digging and barking. This toy breed also relishes in a warm, soft bed or it's owners comforting lap. You should dress the dog in a sweater or jacket in colder temperatures. It is not an outdoor dog.
There are no major health concerns and the minor health concerns include: congenital hypothyroidism with goiter, patellar luxation, Legg-Calve-Perthes and demodicosis.
